Body Boat Blade just posted it on YouTube:
In addition to the technique itself, here are some things to notice in this short video:
- It's structured more or less in the IDEAS format, one of the go-to coaching methodologies.
- There are demonstrations done without talking.
- There are multiple viewpoints and perspectives on key points.
- They emphasize proper biomechanics to avoid injury to joints.
- They reveal a sense of humor.
It's harder than it looks, and (as with other techniques) good coaching can help you learn to do it. If you give it a try, post your thoughts here.

Yeah I tried & & ended up with plenty of impromptu rolling practice :)
The reverse sweep part is easy enough but returning the blade is gonna need some practice. Great to try something new though.
Taran, we have found this is a great skill to practice in the pool or warm water. You are right that it does provide a lot of quality (meaning fast and unexpected) rolling practice. Here's a tip; try starting with the blade nearer the surface of the water. As you get more comfortable with the transition from reverse sweep to the forward supporting slicing stroke, increase the edge and commitment. Leon's tip about driving with the elbow is important as there really is a lot of pressure put on your arm.
Good luck and send us a photo of your success!
